About me

We Are Sew Scoial was started by Slade and UAL trained artist and qualified teacher in art and design: Penelope Davis BA, MFA, PGCE, PhD. With her experience of teaching in schools, colleges, universities and adult education centres she discovered her passion for embroidery while teaching textiles in a school and this led to her idea to set up a company that would combine classes in beginners modern embroidery with social events.

Inspired by memories of her Nan’s upholstery business ‘June’s Upholstery’ whose fantastic shop was always filled with people making as she created wonderful interior furnishing for the community in her hometown Portsmouth, We Are Sew Social seeks to teach sewing skills for wellbeing and create opportunities for the social benefit that comes from the joy of making textiles in a community.

Davis works out of her studio in Derby where she offers a range of workshops in hand and machine sewn textiles and currently teaches sip n stitch embroidery nights at venues in the East Midlands.
